Apple’s latest iPhone operating system, is a worthwhile update, adding a range of useful and enjoyable features as well as patching security holes and tweaking the overall look and feel. But it’s not quite a perfect experience out of the box, as it were.

How to enable battery percentage in iOS 16

Enabling the status bar battery percentage indicator is pretty easy. Just open the ‘Settings’ app, head over to the ‘Battery’ section and you will see the ‘Battery percentage toggle’. Simply turn it on and you will be able to check the remaining battery from the status bar itself.

If you own an iPhone 8, iPhone SE 2nd generation, iPhone SE 3rd generation, or an iPad, the battery percentage is always visible. Unfortunately, the feature is unavailable on iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini right now. But according to a recent report by MacRumors, iOS 16.1 might bring the battery percentage toggle to these unsupported devices.

Apple has just released iOS 16.1 beta to developers and this update will bring the iOS 16 battery percentage indicator to the iPhone XR, the iPhone 11, the iPhone 12 mini, and the iPhone 13 mini. Currently, these iPhone models don’t have the option. This information was shared by the MacRumors forums.

On the other hand, the iPhone SE, the iPhone 8, and earlier have shown the battery percentage from the very start. The “notched” iPhones were the ones that didn’t get the functionality and the battery percentage was only visible via the Control Center.

For those who don’t know, the battery percentage on iOS 16 shows the amount of battery left in the battery icon. The battery remains full until it goes below 20%, following which you will be reminded that a charge is needed. One thing to consider is that the feature is currently a part of the iOS 16.1 beta update, which means that it will take a while to reach stable users. Nonetheless, it still is good news for people who own the aforementioned iPhones and while the feature may attract polarizing opinions, it still is a nice change.

Meanwhile, there are other iOS 16 features to look at like the new customizable Lock Screen, Focus filters, the ability to edit iMessage chats, improved Maps, Passkeys in Safari, and much more. The new iOS 16.1 update will be out next month.
